Starting Lineup
Altay / Onuralp (Ahmet) · Wagner Pina (Mithat) · Nwaiwu (Pavlovic) · Batagov (Savic / Ada İbik) · Mustafa (Genç Türk) · Malinovskyi (Luwawu / Salih) · Silas (Folcarelli) · Muçi · Sağlam Kanat (Genç Türk) · Sağlam Kanat (Karadeniz) · Onuachu (Karlsbakk)Trabzonspor plays with a 4-5-1 formation that focuses on being defensively solid and hitting teams on the break. This lineup is built to sit in a mid block and wait for the right moment to launch direct balls toward the target man. The team aims to control the central areas and use physical presence to win second balls in the middle of the pitch.
Altay acts as the last line of defense behind a back four. Nwaiwu and Batagov occupy the central defender roles, with Nwaiwu providing aerial strength and Batagov covering the space behind the line. Wagner Pina and Mustafa act as full backs, tasked with tracking back to prevent crosses and occasionally pushing up to provide width. The defensive unit works to stay compact and prevent gaps between the lines.
The midfield works as a five man block to congest the center. Silas and Malinovskyi operate as a double pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes. In front of them, Muçi, Sağlam Kanat, and the other Sağlam Kanat occupy the central spaces to connect the defense to the attack. This group must press together to force turnovers and use their passing range to switch play quickly once they win the ball.
In the attacking third, Onuachu operates as a lone striker. He is tasked to hold up the ball and act as a focal point for the team. The attacking movement relies on the midfielders making runs from deep to support him. The wide areas are less about traditional wingers and more about the midfielders cutting inside to create passing lanes, while the forwards press the opposition center backs to disrupt their buildup.
One major tactical advantage for Trabzonspor is the ability to create numerical superiority in the central midfield zone. By packing the middle, they can easily block passing lanes and win the ball back in central areas. Another strength is the ability to isolate Onuachu in one on one situations against smaller defenders, using his aerial strength and physical presence to win long balls and create chaos in the opposition box.
This 4-5-1 formation provides a compact defensive unit that is difficult to break down through the middle. It is a lineup best suited for games against ball dominant opponents where sitting deep and playing vertically is necessary.
