The midfield consists of three players who act as the engine of the formation. Luka Modric operates in the attacking ten role, using his passing range and vision to break the line. Saelemakers and A. Cambiaso work as the central midfielders to shield the defense and connect to the attack. These players must track back to help the back three when losing possession and then push forward to support the front four.
