AZ Football Formation
Starting Lineup
ROME-JAYDEN (OWUSU-ODURO) · SEIYA (MAIKUMA) · WOUTER (GOES) · ALEXANDRE (PENETRA) · MATEO (CHÁVEZ) · PEER (KOOPMEINERS) · KEES (SMIT) · SVEN (MIJNANS) · WESLLEY (PATATI) · ISAK (JENSEN) · TROY (PARROTT)AZ utilizes a 4-3-3 formation that focuses on a high press and quick verticality. This lineup is built to dominate territory through aggressive ball winning and rapid transitions. The team looks to control the tempo by spreading the pitch wide to stretch the opponent and create gaps in the defensive lines.
ROME-JAYDEN plays between the posts to organize the back line as the unit starts the build up. The defensive formation consists of a flat back four where SEIYA and MATEO act as wide defenders. SEIYA provides width by pushing up to overlap, while MATEO can cut inside to help control the central area. In the heart of the defense, ALEXANDRE and WOUTER act as the central defenders to cover space and intercept passes. They work together to maintain a high line, stepping up to catch attackers offside and preventing long balls from finding target men.
The midfield functions with a trio that connects the defense to the attack. PEER and KEES operate in the central areas to shield the defense and regain possession. They use their work rate to track back and cover the full backs when they push forward. SVEN operates in the attacking midfield role, looking to break the line with decisive passes and drive the team into the final third. This midfield group ensures that AZ can switch play quickly to either wing.
In the attacking phase, the team employs three attackers to pin the opposition back. TROY leads the line as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and wait for support. ISAK and WESLLEY stay wide as wingers to provide constant width. ISAK likes to cut inside to shoot or create, while WESLLEY looks to use his pace on the flank. The movement of these three players creates constant tension, forcing the opposition defenders to stay narrow and leaving space for the midfielders to run into.
This formation offers several tactical advantages for AZ. One main benefit is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three to force turnovers near the opponent goal. The wide presence of MATEO and SEIYA creates wide overloads that help break down compact low blocks. Additionally, the team can isolate wide players in one on one situations when the wingers receive the ball in space.
The 4-3-3 formation relies on high energy and quick ball movement to overwhelm the opponent. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line or struggle to manage intense pressure in their own half.
