Mario Gila sits in the middle of this trio to provide cover and dominance in the air. The wing backs, Alex Grimaldo and Saelemakers, are tasked with providing width. Alex Grimaldo will push high to cross the ball, while Saelemakers must track back to help the defenders when the team loses possession.

The midfield consists of three central players working to control the tempo. Luka Modric uses his passing range and vision to connect the defense to the attack. Adrien Rabiot works to shield the back five, using his physicality to intercept passes. L. Goretzka drives forward from the right side to support the transition. This midfield three must stay compact to prevent opponents from playing between the lines.

In the attacking phase, Milan uses two forwards to stretch the opposition. Nicolas Jackson plays as a striker who can hold up the ball and run into channels, while Pulisic operates as a second striker who likes to cut inside from the left.
