N.E.C. Nijmegen Football Formation
Starting Lineup
GONZALO (CRETTAZ) · DEVERON (FONVILLE) · PHILIPPE (SANDLER) · ELI (DASA) · SAMI (OUAÏSSA) · BASAR (ÖNAL) · KODAI (SANO) · DARKO (NEJASMIC) · TJARONN (CHERY) · BRYAN (LINSSEN) · KOKI (OGAWA)N.E.C. Nijmegen utilizes a 3-5-2 formation that focuses on a heavy central presence and high pressing. This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the pitch and control the tempo of the game. By stacking the central zones, the team looks to win the ball quickly and transition into a direct attacking phase that stretches the opposition.
GONZALO acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of ELI, PHILIPPE, and DEVERON. ELI and DEVERON act as the wide center backs to cover the channels, while PHILIPPE holds the central position to command the area. This back three stays compact to deny space between the lines, while the wide midfielders drop back to form a five man block when the team sits deep.
The midfield is built around a central core that provides strength in both directions. KODAI and DARKO play as a double pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes. Ahead of them, BASAR and SAMI operate in the half spaces to drive forward and break the line with vertical passes. TJARONN plays as the attacking ten, finding pockets of space to create chances and connect the midfield to the forwards.
In the attacking phase, N.E.C. Nijmegen uses two forwards to pin back the opposition defenders. BRYAN and KOKI operate as a strike duo, often looking to hold up the ball or run into space behind the defense. They press the opposition center backs to force mistakes and turnovers. The movement of BRYAN and KOKI creates space for TJARONN to arrive late into the penalty area, making the attack difficult to mark.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its central density. The double pivot of KODAI and DARKO provides a platform to win second balls and maintain control. Another strength is the ability to create numerical superiority in the middle of the park, which allows the team to bypass the opponent's midfield easily. The compactness of the three central defenders also makes it very hard for teams to find gaps through the middle.
This 3-5-2 formation relies on a strong central engine to dictate the rhythm of the match. It is best suited for games against teams that play a wide formation where the central density can overwhelm their midfield.
