Excelsior operates in a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built for a high press and vertical attacking play. The team seeks to win the ball in the opponent half and move the ball forward with great speed to catch the defense out of position. This type of football relies on quick turns and immediate pressure.

STIJN acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back line consists of RICK and CASPER as the two central defenders who need to block crosses and cover for the wide players. ARTHUR and ILIAS play as full backs. ARTHUR can overlap to support the attack while ILIAS stays ready to track back when the ball is lost. The whole defensive unit stays compact to prevent passes through the middle and to keep the distances between players short.

The midfield consists of a central trio that links the defense to the front line. ADAM and IRAKLI work to shield the back four and intercept passes in the center. NOAH plays in an advanced role as an attacking ten to drive the team forward. NOAH looks to break the line with clever passes to the attackers. This group helps the team transition from a defensive block to a fast attack while keeping control of the center.

The attacking unit uses three players to stretch the opposition. SZYMON plays as a lone striker who must hold up the ball and make runs into the channels. On the flanks, EMIL and DERENSILI S. act as wide attackers. EMIL often cuts inside from the right side to create shooting angles, while DERENSILI S. stays wide to cross the ball into the box. Their constant movement helps create space for the midfielders to push forward into the final third.

A major strength of this Excelsior formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. When the strikers push up, NOAH and the midfielders step up to trap the opponent in their own half. The team also benefits from wide overloads. When ARTHUR or ILIAS push forward, they create extra numbers on the wings, which forces the opposing defenders to shift and leave gaps in the defensive line.

This 4-3-3 formation is built for aggressive, high-intensity football. It is best suited for matches against opponents that prefer to build play slowly from the back.
