Starting Lineup

RAPHAEL (SALLINGER) · FELIX (PASSLACK) · ROCKY (BUSHIRI) · GRANT (HANLEY) · JORDAN (OBITA) · DAN (BARLASER) · MIGUEL (CHAIWA) · JAMIE (McGRATH) · JOSH (MULLIGAN) · DANE (SCARLETT) · MARTIN (BOYLE)

Hibernian uses a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built for a counter attacking identity that relies on a solid defensive base and rapid transitions. The team aims to sit deep, absorb pressure, and then use the width of the pitch to catch opponents off guard.

RAPHAEL protects the goal while the back line stays compact. MIGUEL and ROCKY form a central trio alongside GRANT to provide stability. MIGUEL and ROCKY act as the main blockers in the box, while GRANT provides cover for the wider areas. FELIX and JORDAN operate as wing backs, pushing high to provide width when the team wins the ball back. These wing backs are expected to track back quickly to form a flat five when the opposition attacks.

The midfield operates with a three man unit that connects the defense to the forwards. DAN and JOSH occupy the central roles, working to shield the back three and intercept passes in the middle third. They look to break the line with vertical passes. JAMIE plays as the attacking ten, sitting just behind the strikers to create chances and link the play. This midfield trio must press in coordination to prevent the opposition from playing through the center.

In the final third, Hibernian utilizes two forwards to stretch the opposition defense. DANE and MARTIN play as a strike duo, often working together to hold up the ball and wait for support. DANE operates on the left side while MARTIN stays more central to occupy the defenders. They lead the press from the front to force mistakes. The movements of DANE and MARTIN create space for JAMIE to run into or for the wing backs to overlap.

One major advantage of this formation is the compactness when defending, making it very hard for opponents to find gaps between the lines. The wide overloads created by FELIX and JORDAN allow the team to switch play quickly once they regain possession. Additionally, the presence of two strikers ensures that the team always has a target to play long balls to during a transition.

This 5-3-2 formation provides a heavy defensive presence that is ideal for absorbing pressure from superior possession sides. It is a system designed to punish teams that commit too many players forward and leave space behind their defense.
