Hibernian Football Formation
Starting Lineup
JORDAN (SMITH) · CHRIS (CADDEN) · MUNASHE (GARANANGA) · WARREN (O'HORA) · NICKY (CADDEN) · ALASANA (MANNEH) · KAI (ANDREWS) · JOE (NEWELL) · JOSH (CAMPBELL) · ÉLIE (YOUAN) · OWEN (ELDING)Hibernian utilizes a 5-3-2 formation that focuses on being defensively solid and ready to spring forward. This lineup is built to sit deep when out of possession and rely on quick transitions to hurt the opposition. By maintaining a compact block, the team forces opponents into wide areas where they can be contained.
JORDAN stays between the posts to command his area and direct the defensive line. The back unit consists of a back three made up of ALASANA, WARREN, and MUNASHE. ALASANA acts as the central anchor while MUNASHE and WARREN cover the channels to intercept long balls. On the flanks, CHRIS and NICKY act as wing backs who must provide width. CHRIS pushes up to overlap during attacks while NICKY tracks back to form a five man wall when the team sits deep.
The midfield functions as a central trio that connects the defense to the front two. JOE and KAI operate in the middle to shield the back three and win second balls. They work to break the line with vertical passes to reach the attacking third. JOSH plays as the attacking ten, sitting just behind the strikers to create chances and find pockets of space. This midfield trio must stay compact to prevent the opposition from playing through the center.
Hibernian uses two forwards, ÉLIE and OWEN, to lead the line. Instead of holding up the ball in a static way, these two are expected to press the opposition defenders high up the pitch. OWEN and ÉLIE make runs into the channels to stretch the opposing back line, creating space for JOSH to operate. The formation relies on the wing backs, CHRIS and NICKY, to provide the width needed to cross the ball into the box when the strikers drop deep.
This formation offers significant advantages in terms of defensive compactness and central control. The presence of three central defenders makes the team very difficult to break down through the middle. Additionally, the team can create wide overloads when CHRIS and NICKY push forward simultaneously with the attackers. This allows the side to shift quickly from a defensive block to an attacking force.
This 5-3-2 formation is built for teams that want to stay hard to beat and strike on the break. It is best suited for matches against dominant sides where controlling space in the final third is vital.
