Roma Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Svillar · Hermoso · To add · Mancini · Wesley · Cristante · Pisilli · To add · Malen · Soule · To addRoma plays with a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built for a high press and vertical play. The team looks to win the ball back quickly in the opponent half and move the ball toward the goal with speed. It is a formation designed to control wide areas while remaining dangerous in the center through quick transitions.
Svillar acts as the goalkeeper to start the build up. The back three includes Mancini, Hermoso, and To add. Mancini uses his aerial strength and aggressive tackling to defend the right side of the central zone. Hermoso provides cover on the left side. To add holds the central position to ensure the back line stays compact. The defenders step up to catch opponents offside and cover spaces when the midfield pushes high.
The midfield consists of a central pairing of Cristante and Pisilli. Cristante uses his physicality and ball winning ability to shield the defense and break the lines. Pisilli connects the defense to the attack by playing short passes and moving into space. Wesley operates on the right side to provide width and overlap the winger. To add plays on the left to help the team maintain width and track back during defensive shifts to protect the flanks.
The attacking unit uses three forwards to pressure the opposition. Malen leads the line as a lone striker, using his speed to run into space and finish chances. Soule plays on the right as an inverted winger, often looking to cut inside to shoot or create. To add occupies the left wing to stretch the defense. This three man front line works to press high and create chaos in the final third by making constant runs.
One strength of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when Wesley and Soule push forward together. The team can also use coordinated waves to press the opponent high up the pitch. The central pairing of Cristante and Pisilli provides stability, allowing the team to transition quickly from defense to attack and exploit gaps in the opposition.
This 3-4-3 formation defines the aggressive identity of Roma. It is most effective when facing teams that struggle to deal with high pressing or leave gaps between their midfield and defensive lines.
