Starting Lineup

Jambo · Jamie T · Stuart · Jamie H · Craig · Andy · Scotty · Joss · Noddy · Nathan · Steve

Milan plays a 4-4-2 formation that focuses on a direct and vertical style of football. This lineup relies on a compact block to deny space between the lines while looking to win the ball and move quickly toward the goal. The team aims to use the width of the pitch to stretch the opposition and create chances through quick transitions.

Steve starts in goal to command the area and organize the back line. The defense operates with a flat back four consisting of Jamie T and Nathan in the middle, while Stuart and Jamie H occupy the wide positions. Jamie T and Nathan must stay close to each other to cover space, with Jamie T acting to intercept passes and Nathan providing strength in the air. Stuart and Jamie H are expected to push up to support the midfield but must track back quickly to maintain the defensive line.

The midfield consists of a double pivot with Andy and Jambo holding the central zone. Andy and Jambo work to shield the defense and break the line with vertical passes to the attackers. Ahead of them, Noddy and Scotty operate as wide midfielders who provide the link between the center and the flanks. Noddy and Scotty must press the opposing full backs and help the midfielders recycle possession when the team moves into the attacking third.

Milan uses two forwards, Craig and Joss, to lead the attack. These two players work together to press the opposition defenders and force mistakes. Craig and Joss often split the distance between themselves to create central presence or drop slightly to hold up the ball for oncoming runners. The formation uses the wide runs of Noddy and Scotty to provide crosses into the box, creating constant movement for the two strikers to exploit.

This formation offers several tactical advantages, such as the ability to maintain a very compact block when defending in a low block. By keeping the lines close, Milan makes it difficult for opponents to play through the middle. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Jamie H and Stuart overlap with Noddy and Scotty. This allows the team to switch play rapidly and isolate defenders in one on one situations on the wings.

The 4-4-2 formation provides a solid foundation for a team that wants to remain difficult to break down. It is best suited for matches against teams that play with a high line and can be punished on the break.
