Starting Lineup
LAUTARO (Pio Esposito) · CHAÏBI * (Diouf, Topalovic) · DIABY * (Bonny) · DIMARCO (Cocchi) · PORRO * (Kamate) · CALHANOGLU (A.Stankovic *) · BARELLA (Zielinski, Sucic) · BASTONI (Alexiou) · LACROIX * (Akanji) · BISSECK (Van Hecke *) · JOSEP (Calligaris)Inter utilize a 3-4-3 formation that focuses on heavy pressing and quick transitions. This lineup is built to control the pitch through high intensity and verticality. The goal is to pin opponents back and force turnovers in the final third to launch direct attacks.
JOSEP operates between the posts to start the build up. In front of him, the back three provides a solid base. LACROIX acts as the central anchor while BISSECK and BASTONI cover the wide areas. BASTONI is known for his passing range and ability to step up into midfield, while BISSECK provides aerial strength and recovery speed. These three defenders work together to maintain a high line, ensuring the team stays compact when they press.
The midfield works in a flat four to control the central and wide areas. CALHANOGLU sits in a central role to shield the back line and break the lines with his long passing. BARELLA works alongside him to drive forward and press opponents aggressively. On the flanks, PORRO and DIMARCO act as wing backs. DIMARCO uses his crossing ability to provide width, while PORRO pushes up to overlap the wide attackers. This midfield unit connects the defense to the front line through constant movement.
The attack features three forwards playing behind LAUTARO. LAUTARO acts as the main striker, known for his pressing intensity and ability to hold up the ball. CHAÏBI and DIABY operate as wide attackers to stretch the defense. CHAÏBI cuts inside from the left to create space, while DIABY uses his dribbling style to beat defenders on the right. This front three presses high in unison to prevent the opposition from building from the back.
One major advantage for Inter is the ability to create wide overloads when DIMARCO and PORRO push forward. This puts immense pressure on the opposition full backs. Another strength is the numerical superiority in midfield when BARELLA and CALHANOGLU push high. The team also benefits from the speed of transition, moving the ball from the defense to the front three with very few touches.
This 3-4-3 formation creates a high pressing identity that suffocates the opponent. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
