Guinea plays with a 5-2-3 formation that focuses on defensive solidity and rapid counter attacking. This lineup aims to sit deep in a compact block and wait for the opposition to commit players forward. Once the ball is won, the team looks to move vertically to catch the opponent out of position.

M. Cheikh Traoré guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line consists of three central defenders with N. Camara acting as the anchor, while Ib Camara and L. Touré provide cover on either side. These central defenders need to be dominant in the air to deal with crosses. A. Sylla and M. Keita operate as wing backs, providing width and pushing up the flanks when the team has the ball. They must track back quickly to form a five man defense when the team loses possession.

The midfield operates as a double pivot consisting of mskaba and A. Bangoura. These two players must stay close together to shield the defense and intercept passes in the middle of the park. mskaba and A. Bangoura are responsible for winning the second ball and then immediately looking to break the line with a long pass. They connect the defensive unit to the attacking trio by controlling the tempo of the transition.

In the attacking third, Guinea utilizes three forwards to stretch the opposition. Hanif leads the line as a lone striker to hold up the ball and bring others into play. M. Cissé and A. Traoré act as wide wingers who look to cut inside or run into the channels. This front line must press high when the team is in their mid block to force mistakes. The goal is to use the width of the pitch to create space in the center for Hanif.

One major advantage of this formation is the compactness when defending in a low block. By having five defenders and two central midfielders, Guinea can make it very difficult for opponents to find gaps between the lines. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when M. Keita and A. Sylla overlap the wingers. This can catch full backs out of position during a quick transition.

This 5-2-3 formation is built to frustrate teams that want to dominate possession. It is best suited for matches against technically superior opponents where sitting deep and hitting on the break is the most effective way to win.
