Lugano plays a 4-3-3 formation designed for a high press and rapid verticality. This lineup seeks to control the tempo through aggressive ball winning and quick transitions. The goal for Lugano is to pin the opposition back and use wide areas to stretch the defense before cutting through the middle.

David Von acts as the last line of defense behind a flat back four. Lukas and Damian operate as the central defenders, with Lukas focusing on covering space while Damian handles aerial duels. On the flanks, Zachary pushes forward to overlap while Martim occupies the left side to provide width. The back line works to step up together to compress the pitch and keep the team compact.

The midfield works in a combination of a single pivot and two more advanced roles. Ahmed provides a screen to shield the defense and intercept passes, allowing Uran to drive forward and link the lines. Mattia operates as an attacking ten, finding pockets of space between the opposition midfield and defense to create chances. This midfield unit connects the defensive unit to the attack by breaking the line with direct passes.

The attacking phase uses three forwards to pin the opposition back. Kevin acts as a lone striker, working to hold up the ball and bring others into play. On the wings, Elias and Claudio play as wide attackers, with Elias looking to cut inside and Claudio providing service from the right. The forwards press in coordinated waves to force mistakes high up the pitch, creating space for Mattia to exploit.

This formation offers several tactical advantages, such as the ability to create wide overloads when Zachary and Claudio push high. The presence of Mattia in the hole allows for numerical superiority in the final third, making it difficult for opponents to mark everyone.
