Vancouver Soccer Formation
Starting Lineup
YOHEI (TAKAOKA) · ÉDIER (OCAMPO) · TRISTAN (BLACKMON) · MATHÍAS (LABORDA) · SAM (ADEKUGBE) · ANDRÉS (CUBAS) · SEBASTIAN (BERHALTER) · RYAN (GAULD) · THOMAS (MÜLLER) · EMMANUEL (SABBI) · BRIAN (WHITE)Vancouver uses a 4-3-3 formation that focuses on a high press and direct attacking movements. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch to catch opponents before they can organize. The goal is to use quick passes to break the lines and create chances through the wide areas.
YOHEI starts between the posts to organize the back line. The defense operates as a flat back four where TRISTAN and MATHÍAS act as the central pair. TRISTAN handles the right side while MATHÍAS covers the left to maintain compactness. On the flanks, ÉDIER and SAM act as full backs who can push up the pitch to provide width. The defenders must step up together to keep the line high and intercept long balls.
The midfield works as a central trio to control the center of the pitch. SEBASTIAN and ANDRÉS play as two pivots to shield the defense and win second balls. They help to connect the defense to the more advanced players. RYAN operates as the attacking ten in the hole behind the strikers. RYAN moves between the lines to find pockets of space and drive the ball forward toward the penalty area.
Vancouver utilizes three attackers to stretch the opposing defense. BRIAN leads the line as a lone striker to hold up the ball and occupy the central defenders. On the wings, EMMANUEL and THOMAS play as wide attackers who look to cut inside and create goal scoring opportunities. EMMANUEL stays wide to provide crosses while THOMAS looks to run into the channels. The front three press in unison to force turnovers in the final third.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. By sending the front three forward, the team forces the opponent to play long, which allows the midfield to intercept. Another strength is the width provided by SAM and ÉDIER, which creates overloads on the flanks. This allows the wingers to move into central positions to increase the goal threat.
This 4-3-3 formation relies on high energy and verticality to overwhelm the opposition. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
