Austin FC Soccer Formation
Starting Lineup
DAMIAN (LAS) · RILEY (THOMAS) · MATEJA (DJORDJEVIC) · JON (BELL) · ZAN (KOLMANIC) · ILIE (SÁNCHEZ) · BESARD (SABOVIC) · NICOLÁS (DUBERSARSKY) · ROBERT (TAYLOR) · C.J. (FODREY) · CHRISTIAN (RAMÍREZ)Austin FC uses a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to play a high press and control the ball in the middle third. The goal is to win the ball back quickly and move the ball forward with verticality.
DAMIAN stays between the posts to organize the back line. JON and MATEJA act as the central defenders, with JON covering the left channel and MATEJA handling the right. RILEY and ZAN operate as the full backs. RILEY pushes forward to overlap and provide width on the right, while ZAN provides balance on the left side. They work as a unit to step up and catch opponents offside or sit deep to protect the space behind.
The midfield relies on ILIE and BESARD to control the tempo. ILIE operates on the left to cover ground and intercept passes, while BESARD moves into pockets to drive forward and connect the defense to the attack. NICOLÁS plays as the attacking midfielder to sit in the hole between the lines. He looks to find the final pass and break the line to reach the forwards. This group works to maintain possession and shift the play across the pitch.
Up front, the team employs three attackers. CHRISTIAN acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and fight with the central defenders. C.J. and ROBERT occupy the wings as wide attackers. C.J. looks to cut inside from the left, while ROBERT uses his pace to stretch the defense on the right. They press the opposition defenders hard to force mistakes. This attacking lineup is designed to create space for the midfielders to run into.
Several tactical advantages come from this formation. The presence of NICOLÁS behind the striker allows for numerical superiority in the attacking third. The ability of RILEY and ZAN to overlap creates wide overloads that pull the opposition defense apart. When they lose the ball, Austin FC can press high in coordinated waves to stop counter attacks before they start.
This 4-3-3 formation is a proactive system built for aggressive ball winning and rapid attacking transitions. It works best against teams that struggle to play out from the back or leave too much space between their midfield and defense.
