Starting Lineup

Sanchez · Cornejo · Gazzolo · Fernandez · Salinas · Galani · Camargo · Chandía · Vadalá · Zavala · Pratto

Coquimbo uses a 4-5-1 formation to maintain a very compact presence on the pitch. This lineup is built to be defensively solid and focuses on controlling the central areas of the field. The primary goal is to sit deep in a mid block and prevent the opposition from finding space between the lines. By doing this, Coquimbo can wait for the right moment to win the ball and move the play forward vertically.

Sanchez acts as the last line of defense, communicating with the back four to keep the lines tight. The defensive unit consists of Salinas at right back and Cornejo at left back, who both need to track back quickly when possession is lost. In the center, Fernandez and Gazzolo act as the main pillars, with Fernandez providing cover while Gazzolo looks to intercept play. This back four works as a single unit to block crosses and force the opposition wide.

The midfield is heavily populated with five players to ensure control in the center. Camargo and Galani sit in a double pivot role to shield the defense and break up opposition attacks. Ahead of them, Zavala, Chandía, and Vadalá occupy the central spaces to link the defense with the lone striker. These three players must constantly shift to cover gaps, with Zavala and Chandía often driving forward to support the attack while Vadalá helps maintain the connection between the lines.

Pratto leads the line as a lone striker, tasked with the difficult job of holding up the ball under pressure. Since there are no natural wingers, the attacking movements depend on the width provided by Salinas and Cornejo or the ability of the midfielders to push into wide areas. The striker must press the opposing center backs to prevent easy distribution, while also looking to turn and play simple passes to the oncoming midfielders.

A key strength for Coquimbo is the numerical superiority in the midfield, which allows the team to clog the passing lanes and dominate the center of the park. The team can also use its compactness to sit deep and force opponents into low percentage shots from distance. This makes the transition from defense to attack very efficient when the midfield can quickly switch play to the flanks.

This 4-5-1 formation provides a resilient defensive foundation through its central density. It is a formation best suited for facing teams that rely heavily on central playmaking or when defending a lead.
