Real Salt Lake employs a 4-3-3 formation to drive a high press and play vertical football. This lineup is built to win the ball back early and move it into the attacking third with speed. The team relies on directness to catch the opposition off balance before they can settle into a game plan.

MASON stays between the posts to command the area. The back four features SAM at left back and GIO at right back, while KOBI and PHILIP form the central defensive pair. SAM and GIO push up the flank to overlap and provide crossing options. KOBI and PHILIP must stay disciplined to cover the space behind them and tackle any oncoming threats. The unit is able to step up to a high line to keep the team compact and mark attackers close.

The midfield group uses PABLO and NOEL to control the center and shield the back four. OWEN plays as an attacking ten, sitting behind the striker to find pockets of space and break the line. PABLO and NOEL work to win second balls and intercept passes. They act as the link that connects the defense to the forward line, and they must track back to ensure the team does not sit too deep when losing possession.

Up front, the team uses three attackers with ARIATH as the lone striker. DOMINIK and AIDEN act as wide attackers who cut inside to shoot or create. ARIATH must hold up the ball to allow the midfield to join the attack. The front line is tasked to press the opposition defenders heavily to force turnovers, while the wingers make runs to stretch the defense.

One major strength for Real Salt Lake is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs push forward. Another advantage is the capacity to press high in coordinated waves using the intensity of DOMINIK, AIDEN, and ARIATH. This formation makes it difficult for the opponent to switch play or move the ball forward without being intercepted.

This 4-3-3 formation is a high tempo system built for aggressive ball winning. It works best when facing opponents that attempt to build play from the back against a heavy press.
