HARET and EFRAÍN must stay close together to cover space and intercept passes. On the flanks, GEOVANNI and KEVIN act as overlapping full backs to provide width. They push up to support the attack while ensuring they track back to prevent counter attacks.

The midfield operates with a combination of three players to control the center of the pitch. SALVADOR and JAVIER sit deeper to shield the defense and pick up the ball from the defenders. They connect the defense to the attack by making short passes and switching play. FRAN plays as an attacking ten, moving between the lines to create chances. FRAN looks to find pockets of space to play through balls to the forwards.

The attacking unit consists of three players working in close proximity to the goal. JESÚS leads the line as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and occupy the center backs. DIEGO and RAMIRO operate as wide attackers. DIEGO prefers to cut inside from the left, while RAMIRO stays wide to stretch the defense and deliver crosses. These three forwards press the opposition defenders to force mistakes.

Santos Laguna gains a tactical advantage through the ability to create wide overloads. When GEOVANNI and KEVIN push forward, they create extra numbers alongside DIEGO and RAMIRO.
