Starting Lineup

Real Madrid uses a 4-3-3 formation to play a high press and possession based game. This lineup aims to control the tempo of the match through heavy ball retention and verticality in the final third. The goal is to dominate the ball and force the opponent into mistakes through constant pressure.

The goalkeeper acts as the first point of distribution to build play from the back. In front, a flat back four maintains a high line to compress the pitch. The RCB and LCB act as ball playing defenders who step up to intercept passes and cover space. On the flanks, the RB and LB push high to provide width, often acting as overlapping full backs to support the attack. This defensive unit works together to stay compact and shift side to side to block passing lanes.

The midfield operates with three players to connect the defense and the attack. The LCM and RCM work to control the center, with one player often dropping to shield the defense while the other drives forward into the half spaces. The AM plays in the pocket behind the striker to create chances and break the line with through balls. This midfield trio works to win the ball back quickly and switch play to the wide areas to stretch the opposition.

Real Madrid utilizes three attackers to pin the opponent back. The LW and RW act as inverted wingers who cut inside to shoot or create, leaving space for the full backs. The ST works as a lone striker to hold up the ball and occupy the central defenders. This front line is designed to press high, forcing the opposition to play long balls while the forwards look to run into space behind the back line.

This 4-3-3 formation offers several tactical advantages. The team creates wide overloads by having the RB and LB overlap with the LW and RW, forcing defenders into difficult decisions.
