The midfield operates in a flat four to protect the defensive unit. JUAN and BRIAN occupy the central roles to shield the back three and intercept passes. They act as the engine that connects the defense to the attack by winning the ball and making short passes. CÉSAR and ANÍBAL play on the flanks to provide width and track back when the opposition pushes forward.
