This lineup aims to control the tempo through central dominance while using wide areas to stretch the opposition. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and break the lines quickly to catch the opponent out of position.
JOSEP ATUBOLU acts as the last line of defense in goal. Ahead of him, a back three consists of BISSECK, LACROIX, and BASTONI. BASTONI provides excellent ball playing ability and long range passing from the left side. BISSECK and LACROIX hold the central line, providing aerial strength and coverage when the team pushes up. The wide players in this formation, DIMARCO and PORRO, act as wing backs who push high to provide width, while the central defenders step up to squeeze the space between the lines.
The midfield operates as a central block with BARELLA and CALHANOGLU controlling the center. CALHANOGLU acts as the deep playmaker, using his passing range to switch play and find teammates in advanced positions. BARELLA provides high pressing intensity and works to recover the ball in the middle third. DIMARCO and PORRO provide the necessary width, helping the midfield connect the defense to the attack by overlapping the front three.
In the attacking third, Inter uses three forwards to pin back the opposition. LAUTARO plays as the lone striker, often dropping deep to hold up the ball and bring others into play. DIABY operates on the right wing, looking to cut inside and drive toward the goal. On the left, PAZ or CHAÏBI works to provide width or stretch the defense, creating space for LAUTARO to move into central areas. The front three press together to force turnovers near the opponent's box.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when DIMARCO and PORRO push forward. This puts immense pressure on the opposing full backs. Another strength is the central control provided by BARELLA and CALHANOGLU, which allows the team to dominate possession and control the rhythm of the game. The coordination between the back three and the wing backs makes the team hard to break down in central areas.
This 3-4-3 formation relies on aggressive pressing and quick transitions to overwhelm opponents. It is best suited for games where Inter can exploit space behind a high defensive line through rapid vertical passing.
