Starting Lineup

Kvaratskhelia · G. Ramos · Dembélé · Ruiz · Mendes · Hakimi · Vitinha · Pacho · Marquinhos · Zabarnyi · Safonov

PSG operates with a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to play with a high press and a vertical style of football. The team seeks to win the ball high up the pitch to attack the opponent before they can settle into their defensive positions.

Safonov plays as the goalkeeper to start the build up. The defensive unit uses a back three of Zabarnyi, Pacho, and Marquinhos (C). As captain, Marquinhos (C) leads the line by using his aerial strength and ability to cover large spaces behind the defense. Zabarnyi and Pacho provide the physical presence needed to win duels and help the team play out from the back. The wide defenders, Mendes and Hakimi, act as wing backs. They push high to provide width in the attacking phase but must track back to sit deep when defending.

The midfield functions through a central duo of Vitinha and Ruiz. Vitinha uses his wide passing range to switch play and find attackers in advanced positions. Ruiz works to connect the defense to the attack by moving between the lines. This midfield pair works to shield the back three and intercept passes in the center of the pitch. By sitting in these central channels, they ensure PSG can transition quickly from a defensive block to an attacking stance.

The attack is led by G. Ramos who plays as a lone striker. He stays central to hold up the ball and allow the team to move up the pitch. Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé provide the width as wide wingers. Kvaratskhelia uses his dribbling to beat markers on the left, while Dembélé uses his dribbling and speed to cut inside from the right. This front three is designed to press the opposition backline and create constant movement to pull defenders out of position.

This formation offers clear tactical advantages. The overlapping runs from Hakimi and Mendes create wide overloads that force the opposition to shift. This movement often leaves gaps in the middle for Vitinha or Ruiz to exploit. The team also benefits from a high speed of transition once they win the ball. The ability to isolate Kvaratskhelia or Dembélé in one on one situations on the flanks is a major threat.

This 3-4-3 lineup is a high intensity system focused on attacking width and aggressive pressing. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high defensive line and struggle with quick vertical passes.
