Japan employs a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to play with a high press and fast vertical transitions. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and quickly move it toward the goal to catch the opponent out of position.

Z.Suzuki stands between the posts to command his area and direct his teammates. The back line consists of three central defenders, with S.Taniguchi acting as the central figure to organize the unit. H.Itō and T.Watanabe sit on either side of him to cover the wide channels. These three must step up to maintain a high line and intercept passes before they reach the final third.

In the middle of the pitch, A.Tanaka and D.Kamada work as a central pair to control the tempo. They shield the defense and try to break the line with vertical passes. R.Doan (C), who serves as captain, plays on the right side to provide width and drive forward into the half spaces. K.Nakamura plays on the left to help connect the midfield to the attacking players. This midfield group must work hard to track back and cover the spaces left by the wide players.

The attacking front features three players looking to stretch the opposition. A.Ueda operates as a lone striker to hold up the ball and lead the press against the opposition back line. K.Mitoma plays on the left and uses his dribbling style to beat defenders and cut inside. T.Kubo plays on the right and uses his dribbling and ball control to create chances. These attackers make runs to create space for each other.

One major advantage for Japan is the ability to create wide overloads when the midfielders push high. This formation also allows for speed of transition, as the three attackers are always ready to sprint forward. The ability to press high in coordinated waves puts immense pressure on the opponent's buildup and forces mistakes in their passing.

This formation is ideal for a team that wants to dominate through high intensity and quick attacking movements. It is best suited for matches against opponents that struggle to play out from the back under heavy pressure.
