The midfield uses a flat four to control the central zone. STANTE and STABILE act as the central pair to shield the defense and intercept play. They focus on winning the ball and immediately looking to break the line with a pass. MARELLO and CINQUEGRANO occupy the wide areas in the midfield, helping to mark opposition wingers and shift across the pitch to maintain a compact block. This group connects the deep defense to the lone attacker.

In the attacking phase, TAHO works as a lone striker. He must hold up the ball to allow the rest of the team to push forward. Since there are no other forwards, the width comes from the overlapping runs of MOSCONI and ZOUIN. TAHO is tasked to press the opposition defenders and force them into mistakes. The movement of the wing backs and the midfield creates space for quick transitions.

One main advantage of this Inter lineup is the compactness when defending. It is very hard for opponents to find gaps between the lines because STANTE and STABILE sit right in front of the back five. Another strength is the speed of transition. When the team wins the ball, the ability of ZOUIN and MOSCONI to push up quickly allows for wide overloads. This forces the opposition to retreat and creates chances.

This formation relies on a disciplined defensive block and quick direct play. It works best against teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their high defensive line.
