Odiah pushes up to provide width on the right, while Taiwo steps up to overlap on the left. This unit works together to push the line high and squeeze the space in front of them.

The midfield functions as a compact block with a double pivot at the base. Haruna and Etuhu sit in front of the defense to shield the back four and win second balls. Haruna acts as a link to help the team transition, while Etuhu focuses on breaking up play and intercepting passes. Further forward, Kaita and Obasi operate in the pockets between the lines. Kaita works to drive forward and create chances, whereas Obasi uses his movement to find space and link the midfield to the strike force.

Nigeria uses two strikers to lead the line and pin back the opposition defenders. Yakubu plays as the main target man, using his hold up the ball ability and physical presence to create space for his partner. Obinna plays slightly closer to the midfield, looking to run into the channels and make quick movements behind the defense.
