Starting Lineup

Shakur · Thugshaker · Sink · SAKAT48 · Gyro · Vila · Ludde · Staqz · Niko · Vyn · Esqui

Bologna plays with a 5-3-2 formation that focuses on being defensively solid while looking to hit opponents on the break. This formation is built to sit in a compact lineup to deny space between the lines before using quick vertical passes to catch the opposition out of position. The team relies on a strong defensive base to allow the midfielders and wing backs to push forward when the opportunity arises.

Sink guards the goal and manages the area behind the back line. The defensive unit operates with a back three consisting of SAKAT48, Shakur, and Thugshaker. SAKAT48 acts as the central pillar to hold the line and organize the unit, while Shakur and Thugshaker provide cover and depth. On the flanks, Gyro and Vila act as wing backs who are expected to cover the entire length of the pitch. They provide width in attack but must track back quickly to form a five man block when Bologna loses possession.

The midfield functions as a three man line designed to control the center of the pitch. Ludde and Staqz operate as the central midfielders, with one often dropping to shield the defense while the other drives forward to support the attack. Niko plays as the attacking midfielder, sitting just behind the strikers to connect the midfield to the front two. Niko works to find pockets of space to receive the ball and break the line with a pass. This formation ensures the team remains hard to play through in the middle third.

Up front, the team utilizes two forwards in Esqui and Vyn. They work together to lead the press from the front and make runs into the channels to stretch the opposing defenders. Esqui and Vyn often drop deep to hold up the ball, allowing the midfield to join the attack. The presence of these two strikers forces the opposition back line to stay deep, which creates more space for Gyro and Vila to overlap and deliver crosses into the box.

One major strength of this system is the ability to create wide overloads when Gyro and Vila push high up the pitch. Another advantage is the compactness when defending, as the five defenders and three midfielders can quickly shift to block passing lanes. This makes it very difficult for opponents to find space in central areas. The team also benefits from the speed of transition once they win the ball back in the middle third.

Bologna uses this 5-3-2 to stay resilient against teams that dominate possession. It is a lineup best suited for neutralizing high attacking teams by absorbing pressure and hitting them with direct movements.
