LASK operates with a 5-4-1 formation designed to play a low block and rely on direct vertical transitions. This formation focuses on defensive solidity and compactness to frustrate opponents before launching quick breaks. The team aims to sit deep, absorb pressure, and use the width of the pitch to spring attacks when space opens up in the opposition half.

Kalajdzic stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit from the back. In front of him, a back three consisting of Lang, Horvath, and Schöpf provides a narrow and difficult zone to penetrate. Lang and Horvath focus on winning aerial duels and covering space, while Schöpf provides extra cover. The wide defenders, Usor as the left wing back and Danek as the right wing back, are tasked with tracking back to form a flat five when defending. They must push up the flanks during transitions to provide width and delivery.

The midfield works in a flat four to protect the central zones. Bello and Jørgensen sit in front of the back three to shield the defense and intercept passes. Bello works to break the line with simple passes, while Jørgensen looks to tackle and recycle possession. Moving ahead of them, Andrade and Tornich operate in the half spaces as attacking midfielders. Andrade and Tornich connect the midfield to the lone striker by finding pockets of space and driving the ball forward to break the opposition press.

LASK utilizes a lone striker in Jungwirth to lead the line. Jungwirth must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to move up the pitch. The attack relies on the width provided by Usor and Danek to stretch the defense. When the team wins the ball, Andrade and Tornich make runs into the box to support the central presence. The forwards press in a coordinated way to force mistakes in the opposition buildup, though the primary goal is to stay compact and wait for the right moment to switch play.

One major advantage of this 5-4-1 is the defensive compactness that makes it hard for teams to play through the middle. By using five defenders, LASK creates a wall that is difficult to break down in the box. Another strength is the ability to use wide overloads when Usor and Danek overlap the midfield. This forces the opposition to defend large areas of the pitch, creating space for Andrade and Tornich to exploit.
