The midfield formation is the engine of Valencia and uses five players to crowd the center. Saravia and Gayà act as a double pivot to shield the two center backs and break up opposition play. G. Rodríguez and Guerra occupy the central channels to drive forward and connect the defense to the attackers. Almeida plays as an attacking ten, looking to find pockets of space between the lines and play killer passes. The attacking line consists of three forwards designed to stretch the play. Beltrán plays on the left as an inverted winger to cut inside and create shooting opportunities, while D. López stays wide on the right to provide width and deliver crosses. Duro operates as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and lead the press from the front. This front three pushes the defensive line of the opponent back, creating more room for the midfielders to run into.

One major strength of this formation is the numerical superiority in the middle of the park, which makes it hard for opponents to pass through the center.
