Jaros acts as the last line of defense behind a flat back four. Itakura and Sutalo form the central pairing where Itakura provides cover while Sutalo acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks. On the flanks, Gaaei and Rosa push high to provide width. Gaaei looks to overlap to deliver crosses, while Rosa stays wide to pull defenders out of position. The defensive unit works to step up and squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch.

The midfield formation uses a three man unit to control the center. Gloukh sits in the middle to connect the defense and the attack with his passing range. Regeer and Mokio operate on either side to drive forward and press the opposition. Regeer looks to break the line with vertical passes, while Mokio helps to shield the defense when the team loses possession. This trio works to intercept passes and transition the ball quickly from deep positions.

Ajax uses three attackers to pin the opponent back. Weghorst acts as a lone striker who uses his aerial strength to hold up the ball and battle with central defenders. On the wings, Berghuis and Ørjasæter provide constant width. Berghuis likes to cut inside to create shooting opportunities, while Ørjasæter stays wide to stretch the back line. The forwards press in a coordinated way to force turnovers high up the pitch.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when Gaaei or Rosa overlap the wingers. The team also gains numerical superiority in midfield when Gloukh drops deeper to pick up the ball. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the players look to exploit gaps the moment they win the ball back. This allows the team to move from a defensive block to an attacking lineup very quickly.
