Nantes Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Anthony Lopes · Tati · Awaziem · Cozza · Guilbert · Centonze · Ganago · Abline · Kaba · Lepenant · LerouxNantes uses a 3-5-2 formation designed for a high press and quick vertical transitions. This lineup seeks to dominate the central areas of the pitch to win the ball back quickly. The goal is to move the ball forward with direct passes to the front two once control is regained.
Anthony Lopes stays between the posts to organize the back line. The defense works as a back three with Awaziem, Cozza, and Tati occupying the central spaces. Awaziem and Tati act as the primary markers to block runs, while Cozza covers the left side of the central zone. This trio maintains a high line to compress the space between the defense and the midfield.
The midfield functions with a heavy central presence through a combination of a double pivot and three advanced players. Leroux and Lepenant form the base to shield the defense and intercept passes. Centonze and Guilbert operate in the half spaces to drive forward and connect the defense to the attack. Kaba acts as the attacking ten to create chances and break the line with through balls.
Nantes utilizes two forwards in a front two to pressure the opposition defenders. Ganago and Abline work closely together to hold up the ball and create space for the midfielders to run into. They press the opposing center backs to force turnovers in high areas. The movement of Ganago and Abline is meant to pull defenders out of position and create gaps in the middle.
One tactical advantage of this formation is the numerical superiority in the central midfield. By having five players in the middle, the team can easily win second balls and control the tempo. Another strength is the ability to press high in coordinated waves using Kaba and the front two. This forces opponents to play long balls that the back three can easily intercept.
The 3-5-2 formation relies on heavy central pressure and rapid verticality. It is best suited for games against teams that prefer to play out from the back and leave space behind their midfield.
