Starting Lineup

T. Hernandez · Koundé · Dembélé · Saliba · Upamecano · Rabiot · Tchouaméni · Cherki · Olise · Mbappé · Maignan

France (National Teams) uses a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to play a high press and very aggressive vertical football. The aim is to dominate the middle of the pitch and overwhelm the opponent through rapid transitions and high numbers in the final third.

Maignan plays between the posts to start the buildup. The defensive unit relies on a back two consisting of Saliba and Upamecano. Saliba uses his recovery speed and ability to read play to cover space, while Upamecano provides physical strength and aerial presence. Because there are only two central defenders, they must step up to intercept passes and keep a high line to compress the pitch.

The midfield is a crowded five man block designed to control the center. Tchouaméni acts as the single pivot to shield the defense and break up play. Koundé and T. Hernandez occupy the central spots, with T. Hernandez often pushing forward to overlap or cut inside. Rabiot and Cherki operate in the half spaces to connect the midfield to the attack. This heavy midfield presence allows the team to win second balls and quickly switch play to the wings.

The attacking front line utilizes three attackers to stretch the opposition. Dembélé leads the line as a central forward, using his pace to run behind the defense and hold up the ball. Mbappé and Olise act as wide attackers who cut inside to find goal scoring opportunities. Mbappé uses his explosive acceleration and clinical finishing to punish mistakes, while Olise looks to break the line with direct runs. These three forwards press the opponent's defenders relentlessly to force errors.

One major advantage of this France (National Teams) lineup is the numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. The five midfielders can easily outnumber most standard midfields to win possession. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads, as T. Hernandez and the wide midfielders can push high to support the front three. This makes it very difficult for opponents to track all the runners in the final third.

This 2-5-3 formation is built for high intensity and total dominance of the ball. It is best suited for games where France (National Teams) needs to break down a low block or overwhelm an opponent through sheer attacking volume.
