Jihlava Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Soukup · Haala · Beneš · Štětka · Hošek · Lacko · Čermák · Křehlík · Křivánek · Miška · OmotoyeJihlava operates with a 4-5-1 formation that focuses on defensive solidity and mid-block discipline. This lineup is built to play a reactive style of football where the team stays compact to deny space between the lines. By packing the middle of the pitch, Jihlava aims to frustrate opponents and force them into wide areas where they can be pressed or contain.
Soukup stays between the posts to anchor the defensive unit. The back line features a flat back four consisting of Hošek at left back and Haala at right back. In the center, Štětka and Beneš form the defensive core, looking to block crosses and win aerial duels. Hošek and Haala are tasked with tracking back to support the center backs, while the pair of Štětka and Beneš must stay close together to prevent any runs through the middle.
The midfield is quite crowded, utilizing a five man unit to control the central zones. Čermák and Lacko act as the double pivot to shield the defense, sitting deep to intercept passes and break up play. Ahead of them, Křivánek, Křehlík, and Miška work to connect the defensive block to the lone attacker. These three midfielders must move together to press the ball and slide across to cover gaps when the opposition tries to switch play.
In the attacking phase, the team relies on a lone striker, Omotoye, to lead the line. Because the midfield is so heavy, the attack is built through short passes and quick transitions from the central midfielders. Omotoye must hold up the ball to allow the five midfielders to push forward and support the move. The goal is to use the central density to win the ball and immediately find Omotoye to start a counter attack.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to achieve high levels of compactness when defending in a mid block. By having five players in the midfield, the team makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. Another strength is the capacity to use the five midfielders to create numerical superiority in the center of the pitch, allowing the team to intercept the ball and quickly switch play to the flanks.
This 4-5-1 formation provides a very hard unit to break down through the center. It is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession where Jihlava can sit deep and strike on the break.
