Starting Lineup
EARPS (86) · CARMONA (89) · DE ALMEIDA (84) · SAMOURA (81) · LE GUILLY (82) · JEAN-FRANCOIS (83) · REITEN (85) · YAYA (83) · ROORD (88) · MEAD (85) · DORSIN (71)PSG operates with a 4-5-1 formation. This lineup is built to play a compact style that relies on heavy pressing and quick vertical transitions. The goal is to crowd the central areas of the pitch and force opponents into mistakes before breaking forward rapidly.
EARPS sits between the posts to command the defensive unit. The back line consists of a flat back four where LE GUILLY and CARMONA act as full backs to provide width. In the middle, SAMOURA and DE ALMEIDA work together to cover space and win duels. SAMOURA provides strength in the air while DE ALMEIDA acts as a ball playing defender to start plays from the back. This group stays close together to maintain a solid block when the team sits deep.
The midfield functions as a central block designed to dominate the middle third. JEAN-FRANCOIS sits in the single pivot role to shield the defense and intercept passes. Moving ahead of him, YAYA and ROORD occupy the central slots to drive forward and connect the lines. REITEN and MEAD operate as attacking midfielders on the left and right flanks to support the front line. This midfield unit works to press in waves and regain possession in the middle of the park.
PSG uses a lone striker in DORSIN to lead the line. DORSIN must hold up the ball to allow the attacking midfielders to join the play. REITEN and MEAD act as wide midfielders who can cut inside to create central presence or stay wide to provide crosses. This formation relies on the front five to press high and disrupt the opposition build up. The movements of the attackers are designed to create space for the midfielders to run into the final third.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. By having five players in the midfield, the team can easily block passing lanes and crowd the opposition. Another strength is the ability to transition quickly from a compact defensive block to an attacking move. This allows the team to catch opponents out of position when they push too high.
This 4-5-1 formation creates a hard unit to break down through the middle. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession where PSG can sit deep and strike on the break.
