São Paulo Football Formation
Starting Lineup
RAFAEL · LUCAS RAMON · DORIA · SABINO · ENZO · BOBADILLA · DANIELZINHO · CAULY · ARTUR · WENDELL · ANDRÉ SILVASão Paulo operates with a 5-3-2 formation that focuses on a compact defensive block and quick vertical transitions. This lineup is built to absorb pressure in the middle of the pitch and use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the opposition. The team aims to stay solid when deep and hit teams quickly once the ball is won.
In goal, RAFAEL acts as the last line of defense. The defensive unit employs a back three consisting of DANIELZINHO, DORIA, and SABINO. DANIELZINHO sits central to command the area, while DORIA and SABINO provide cover and aerial strength. The wing backs, LUCAS RAMON and ENZO, are tasked with covering the entire flank. They must track back to form a five man line when defending deep, but they are also expected to push up high to provide width.
The midfield contains three players working to control the central zone. BOBADILLA and WENDELL sit in the middle to shield the back three and intercept passes. CAULY operates in a more advanced role as an attacking ten to connect the midfield to the forward line. CAULY looks to break the line with through balls and drive the play forward. This trio works to maintain compactness to prevent opponents from playing through the middle.
The attack features two strikers, ANDRÉ SILVA and ARTUR. ANDRÉ SILVA plays as the primary target man to hold up the ball and bring others into play, while ARTUR uses his pace to run into channels. They press the opposition defenders to force mistakes and quick turnovers. The movements of the two forwards create space for the midfielders to join the attack and for the wing backs to overlap.
São Paulo gains a significant advantage through numerical superiority in the defensive third, making it very hard for teams to find space between the lines. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when LUCAS RAMON and ENZO join the attackers. This forces the opposing full backs into difficult decisions, often leaving the center open for CAULY to exploit.
This 5-3-2 formation provides a robust defensive foundation that is ideal for absorbing pressure against heavy attacking sides. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to sit deep and catch the opponent on the break.
