Udinese plays a 3-5-2 formation that focuses on a high press and quick vertical play. This lineup is built to dominate the central areas of the pitch while maintaining enough numbers to transition rapidly from defense to attack. The team looks to win the ball high up the pitch and push forward with intent.

Okoye sits between the three central defenders to sweep up any long balls that break the line. Kristensen leads the back three as a ball playing defender to help start attacks from deep. Kabasele and Osayi-Samuel operate as the wide defenders in this back three, where they must slide across to cover the channels. When the team pushes high, Osayi-Samuel and Kabasele provide security against counter attacks by dropping into a defensive block if the press is bypassed.

The midfield uses a five man unit to control the tempo and connect the lines. Zanoli and Jakobs sit in a double pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes in the middle. Ekklenkamp and Atta operate in the half spaces to drive forward and link play, while Piotrowski plays as an attacking ten to find gaps between the opposition lines. This midfield group works to press in coordinated waves to force mistakes in the opponent half.

Udinese utilizes two forwards to stretch the opposition defense. Davis and Zaniolo play as two strikers who often pull defenders out of position with clever runs. Davis occupies the central space to hold up the ball, while Zaniolo can cut inside to create shooting opportunities. These two attackers lead the press from the front, forcing the opposition to play long and allowing the defensive unit to intercept and switch play.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create numerical superiority in the center of the pitch through the combination of the double pivot and the attacking ten. The team also creates wide overloads when the wing backs push high to support the attackers. By using a compact middle block, the formation makes it very hard for opponents to pass through the center, forcing them into wide areas where they can be marked easily.
