The defenders must remain compact to ensure there are no gaps between the lines when the team sits deep.

In the middle of the pitch, a box midfield setup helps connect the defense to the attack. Barella works to drive forward and press opponents, while Jones holds a position to shield the back line. The wide players, Porro and Dimarco, occupy the midfield roles to provide width. Dimarco acts as a left midfielder who pushes high to overlap, and Porro moves to control the right flank. This midfield unit must shift quickly to cover the wide areas when the ball is switched.

The attack features three players positioned high up the pitch. Lautaro operates as a lone striker who can hold up the ball and bring others into play. On the wings, Thuram and Chaïbi act as wide attackers who look to cut inside or stretch the opposition. Thuram uses his strength and pace to threaten the flanks, while Chaïbi looks to create chances from the left. Their primary job is to press the opposing full backs and create space for the midfielders to run into.

Inter gains a massive advantage through wide overloads. When Dimarco and Porro push forward, they create two on one situations against the opposing full backs. This helps the team dominate the flanks and deliver crosses into the box. The ability to press high in coordinated waves also forces opponents into rushed decisions.
