Starting Lineup

Ferllo (Parreño / Puerto) · FICHAJE TOP (Dani Barcia) · Noubi (Loureiro) · Ximo Navarro (FICHAJE) · Quagliata (FICHAJE) · Soriano (Noé) · Villares (Riki) · Yeremay (Luismi Cruz) · Mella (Altimira) · FICHAJE TOP (FICHAJE) · FICHAJE TOP (Bil Nsongo / Zakaria)

Prioritizing defensive solidity and quick transitions, Deportivo operates with a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to absorb pressure and hit opponents on the break through direct vertical passing. The side remains compact to deny space between the lines, making them very hard to break down when sitting deep.

Ferllo stays between the posts to command the area and organize the back line. A central trio of FICHAJE TOP, FICHAJE TOP, and Noubi forms a dense block to protect the middle of the box. Ximo Navarro and Quagliata act as wing backs, tasked with providing width and tracking back to help the defenders. While the central defenders focus on winning headers and covering space, the wing backs must balance their runs to support the attack or drop into a flat five when the team sits deep.

In front of the defense, Villares holds the position of a single pivot to shield the back line and intercept passes. Soriano and Mella operate in the central midfield roles to connect the defense to the attack, with Mella often looking to drive forward into pockets of space. Yeremay provides energy in the left central role to help press and track runs. This midfield four works to maintain a tight block, ensuring no gaps open up between the midfielders and the defensive unit.

The attacking output relies on a lone striker, FICHAJE TOP, who must hold up the ball and contest long passes. Wide attackers are expected to push high, often aided by the overlapping runs of Ximo Navarro and Quagliata to create numbers in the final third. When the team wins the ball, the forwards immediately press to prevent a quick counter, while the midfielders look to break the line with forward passes to the striker.

This formation offers significant defensive compactness when the team sits deep in a low block. It also allows for wide overloads when Ximo Navarro and Quagliata push high up the pitch. By keeping the midfield and defensive lines close together, Deportivo can shift easily to cover the width of the pitch and protect the central zones.

The 5-4-1 formation allows Deportivo to remain incredibly difficult to beat in defensive situations. It is a system best suited for matches against superior possession teams where the goal is to absorb pressure and exploit space on the counter.
