Hajduk Football Formation
Starting Lineup
KALINIĆ · ELEZ · MAJSTOROVIĆ · TODOROVIĆ + · MELNJAK · GRGIĆ · KROVINOVIĆ · FRUK + · ŠIMIĆ + · BIUK (IVANOVIĆ +) · LIVAJAHajduk focuses on a heavy defensive block and quick transitions in a 5-4-1. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure, relying on a compact unit to force opponents into wide areas before launching direct attacks. The team looks to control the tempo of the game through disciplined positional play and a strong central core.
Kalinić acts as the last line of defense behind a deep back line of five. GRGIĆ leads the central trio, providing physical presence and aerial strength to clear crosses. Beside him, ELEZ and MAJSTOROVIĆ cover the zones between the center and the flanks. MELNJAK and TODOROVIĆ operate as wing backs, tasked with tracking back to form a five man line when defending deep and pushing up to provide width when the team wins the ball back.
The midfield works in a flat four to maintain compactness and block passing lanes. KROVINOVIĆ sits in front of the defense to shield the back line and intercept play. To his right, ŠIMIĆ (C) operates as the captain, helping to control the rhythm and connect the defensive unit to the forward line. FRUK and BIUK occupy the remaining central spots, tasked with pressing opponents and making runs to support the break. This group must stay close together to prevent the opposition from playing through the middle.
Hajduk uses a lone striker in LIVAJA to lead the line. He must hold up the ball under pressure and bring the midfielders into the play. The attack relies on the movement of the four midfielders who push up to support the lone striker. When the team wins the ball, the wing backs MELNJAK and TODOROVIĆ sprint forward to provide crosses, while LIVAJA looks to occupy the two center backs to create space for late runs from the midfield.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to maintain a low block and remain compact when defending. Hajduk can create numerical superiority in the defensive third, making it very difficult for opponents to find gaps. The speed of transition is another key strength, as the team can shift quickly from a deep defensive position to a wide attacking threat using the wing backs.
The 5-4-1 setup provides a reliable way to protect the penalty area and frustrate dominant sides. Hajduk is well suited to use this formation against teams that dominate possession and look to attack through the center.
