Iceland aims to control matches through a high press and quick transitions using a 4-3-3. This formation allows the team to squeeze the pitch and force errors in the opponent half. The lineup relies on quick ball movement to break lines and create chances for the forwards.

MATTHIEU stays between the posts to organize the back line. The defense works as a flat back four where AARON and JORIS provide width. AARON is tasked to overlap and support the wingers, while JORIS must track back to cover the flank. In the middle, CHANCEL and AXEL act as the central defenders, needing to hold a high line to keep the team compact. CHANCEL and AXEL must be ready to intercept long balls and win headers to prevent direct attacks.

The midfield operates with a three man unit that connects the defense to the attack. NOAH and NGAL'AYEL work to shield the defense and win second balls in the center of the pitch. SAMUEL plays as an attacking midfielder to drive the team forward and find pockets of space. SAMUEL connects the lines by receiving the ball from the deep midfielders and turning to find the attackers. This group must shift together to block passing lanes and stop counter attacks.

In the attacking phase, Iceland uses three forwards to stretch the opposition. MESCHACK and YOANE play as wide wingers, looking to cut inside or cross the ball into the box. CÉDRIC acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and press the opposing defenders. MESCHACK and YOANE push high to pin the full backs, creating space for NOAH or NGAL'AYEL to make late runs. The forwards work together to press in waves and force turnovers near the goal.

One advantage of this lineup is the ability to create wide overloads when AARON or JORIS push up to join MESCHACK or YOANE. The team can also achieve numerical superiority in the center when SAMUEL moves between the lines. Another strength is the compactness of the unit when they sit deep to defend, making it hard for opponents to find gaps. These traits allow Iceland to transition from a defensive block to a vertical attack very quickly.

This 4-3-3 formation is built for a team that wants to dominate the ball and press high. It is best suited for matches against opponents that struggle to play out from the back under intense pressure.
