River Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Viña · Rivero · Martínez Quarta · Montiel · Driussi · Colidio · Salas · Quintero · Castaño · Moreno · BeltránPrioritizing extreme verticality and high pressing, River utilizes a 2-5-3 formation to overwhelm the opposition. This lineup seeks to control the center of the pitch and pin the opponent back in their own half. By pushing many players into the middle areas, River creates a heavy presence that forces quick decisions from the defending team.
Beltrán sits between the posts to command his area. In front of him, the back line consists of only two central defenders, Rivero and Martínez Quarta, who must play with a very high line. Martínez Quarta uses his aerial strength and ability to read the game to intercept long balls, while Rivero covers the space behind him when the team pushes up. This small defensive unit relies on the midfield to block passing lanes and prevent direct runs through the center.
The midfield is the engine of this formation, operating as a dense block of five players. Montiel occupies the right defensive midfield role to shield the two defenders and help break up play. Beside him, Viña works in the left defensive midfield position to track runners and protect the flank. Castaño and Moreno operate in the central midfield areas to drive the ball forward and connect the defense to the attack. Quintero plays as the attacking midfielder, using his passing range to break the line and find the forwards.
The attack is built around three players working in close proximity. Driussi leads the line as the lone striker, where he works to hold up the ball and bring others into play. On the flanks, Salas and Colidio operate as wide attackers. Salas looks to use his pace on the right, while Colidio cuts inside from the left to create goalscoring opportunities. This front three maintains a high press to win the ball back immediately after losing possession.
River gains a major advantage through numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch. With five players in the midfield, Montiel, Viña, Castaño, Moreno, and Quintero can easily win second balls and control the tempo. The formation also allows for wide overloads when the midfielders shift to support the wingers. This setup creates many one on one situations for Salas and Colidio as they push into the final third.
This aggressive formation is designed to dominate teams that sit deep and try to defend in a low block. It is a high risk, high reward system best suited for matches where River needs to force a result through constant pressure.
