Starting Lineup
Vicario (Martinez) · Muharemovic (Soulet) · Bastoni (Carlos) · Akanji (Pavard) · Palestra (Diouf) · Dimarco (Luiz Enrique) · Calhanoglu (Stankovic) · Barella (Jones) · Zielinski (Sucic) · Lautaro (Pio Esposito) · Thuram (Bonny)Inter focuses on controlling the pitch through a heavy press and quick transitions using a 3-5-2. This formation is built to dominate the central areas and use aggressive movement to break lines. The Inter lineup relies on high intensity to win the ball back quickly and push teams into deep blocks.
Vicario sits between the lines to act as a starting point for play. A back three consisting of Akanji, Muharemovic, and Bastoni provides a solid base. Akanji acts as a ball playing defender who can step up into midfield, while Muharemovic provides cover and aerial strength. Bastoni uses his long passing range to switch play across the pitch. This defensive unit shifts as a single block to intercept passes and keep the line high.
The midfield functions as a compact engine room. Calhanoglu sits deep as a single pivot to shield the defense and dictate the tempo. Beside him, Palestra and Dimarco operate in the central zones to control the rhythm. Barella and Zielinski move into the half spaces to drive forward and connect the defense to the attack. This midfield group works to press in coordinated waves to disrupt the opponent.
Two strikers lead the line to pin back the opposition defense. Lautaro and Thuram work as a pair to press the ball from the front. Lautaro often drops slightly to hold up the ball, while Thuram uses his pace to make runs in behind. They occupy the center of the pitch to create space for the late runs of Barella and Zielinski. This attacking structure makes it difficult for opponents to mark every threat.
One major advantage is the ability to create numerical superiority in the center of the pitch through the midfield group. The team also uses the wide areas when Dimarco and Palestra push up to overlap. This creates wide overloads that force the opposition to shift, leaving gaps in the middle. The speed of transition from a defensive block to a direct attack is a constant threat.
This formation provides a strong balance between defensive stability and attacking pressure. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high line or try to build play slowly through the middle.
