Starting Lineup

Guri · Anmol · Gaurav · Bindi · Jaskirat · Ajay · Jasraj · Rana · Ravi · Param · Rohan

Accrington looks to play a direct and vertical style of football using a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup aims to sit deep and hit teams on the transition. The team focuses on being defensively solid before looking to spread wide and exploit spaces behind the opposition back line.

Guri stays between the posts to command the area. In front of him, Accrington employs a back five that can shift between a narrow defensive block and a wider coverage. Ajay sits at the heart of the defense as the central defender to clear the lines and win headers. Anmol plays as the right centre back to provide cover, while Gaurav acts as the left centre back. The wide defenders, Bindi as the right wing back and Jaskirat as the left wing back, are tasked to push high up the pitch when the team has the ball. They must track back quickly to prevent crosses and ensure the team stays compact when defending.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Jasraj and Rana work together to shield the defense and win the second ball. Jasraj often looks to carry the ball forward to link the defensive unit with the attacking trio. Rana helps to recycle possession and press in a mid-block to force a long ball from the opponent. This two man midfield must be disciplined to avoid leaving gaps between the lines.

The attacking unit utilizes three attackers across the front to stretch the defense. Rohan operates as a lone striker, acting as the focal point to hold up the ball and wait for support. Param plays as the right winger and Ravi acts as the left winger, both looking to cut inside and create chances. These wingers stay wide to pull the opposition defenders out of position, which creates room for Rohan to find space in the box. The forwards press from the front to trigger a press and prevent the opponent from playing out from the back.

Accrington finds tactical advantages through the width provided by Bindi and Jaskirat. Their ability to provide wide overloads allows the team to create situations where Param or Ravi can receive the ball in one on one situations. Another strength is the compactness of the back five, which makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle.

This 5-2-3 formation is built for teams that want to absorb pressure and strike with pace. It is best suited for matches against dominant sides where Accrington can sit deep and use the wings to counter at pace.
