Arsenal looks to dominate through high intensity and heavy attacking numbers in this 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to press from the front and overwhelm the opposition with sheer volume of players in the final third. By committing so many bodies forward, the team focuses on winning the ball back high up the pitch to create immediate goal scoring chances.

Raya sits between the posts to act as the first point of distribution. The defensive unit relies on a narrow two man back line consisting of Saliba and Gabriel. Saliba and Gabriel must be prepared to cover huge amounts of ground as they play in a high line to squeeze the space. They function as ball playing central defenders who must be comfortable playing short from the back to start attacks. Because there are no full backs in this formation, these two must be dominant in the air and quick to intercept any balls played into the channels.

The midfield works in a central block to bridge the gap between the defense and the attackers. Brown and Timber operate as a double pivot to shield the two defenders. Timber and Brown must stay compact to deny the turn to opposition attackers and prevent them from playing through the lines. In front of them, Skelly and Rice occupy the half spaces. Skelly acts as a left attacking midfielder to link play, while Rice plays as a right attacking midfielder, using his high work rate to press aggressively and win the second ball.

The attacking line is incredibly heavy with four players pushing into the opponent half. Eze and Havertz play as two central forwards, with Havertz often acting to hold up the ball while Eze looks to find space between the lines. On the flanks, Rogers plays as a wide winger on the left to provide width, while Saka operates on the right as an inverted winger who wants to cut inside onto his left foot. This front four aims to stretch the defence and create many options for cutbacks from the byline or runs in behind.

One major advantage for Arsenal is the ability to press in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to build play from their own half. The numerical superiority in the attacking zone allows the team to isolate wide players in one on one situations frequently. By using the roles of Skelly and Rice to support the front four, the team can quickly recycle possession and launch new waves of attack before the opposition can recover.

This 2-4-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system designed for total dominance. It is best suited for matches where Arsenal faces a low block and needs to force a breakthrough through relentless pressure.
