Starting Lineup

Amoura · Gouiri · Hadj Moussa · Maza · Bentaleb · Aouar · Belghali · Aït-Nouri · Bensebaini · Mandi · Zidane

Algeria plays with an aggressive and vertical style of football using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball back high up the pitch to launch rapid attacks. The main idea is to flood the middle of the field to control the tempo and catch opponents out of position during transitions.

Zidane acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back line consists of just two central defenders, Bensebaini and Mandi, who must defend zonally and hold a high line. Because the back two is so narrow, Bensebaini and Mandi have to be ready to step up to squeeze the space or drop back to cover if a runner breaks the line. They must be quick to intercept passes to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.

A five-man midfield block is used to dominate the center. Belghali and Aït-Nouri play as a double pivot to shield the defense and protect the two center backs. Bentaleb and Aouar operate in the half-spaces, looking to carry the ball forward and play through the lines to reach the final third. Maza plays as an attacking ten to connect the midfield to the attack and arrive late into the box. This group works to compress the midfield and win the second ball to keep the pressure on.

In the attacking third, the team uses a front three. Gouiri works as a pressing centre-forward to force a long ball from the opposition. Amoura and Hadj Moussa operate as wide wingers to stretch the defence and provide width. These wide players try to get to the byline and cut it back for the teammates arriving late. The movement is designed to create runs in behind and allow the players to combine in tight spaces.

One major advantage is the numerical superiority in midfield which allows Algeria to control the center of the pitch. Another strength is the ability to press in high waves, making it difficult for the opposition to build from the back. This lineup also creates opportunities to isolate wide players in one on one situations when the wingers pull wide.

This 2-5-3 formation is built for high-intensity, aggressive football. It is best suited for matches where the team can use midfield dominance to overwhelm an opponent.
