Trabzonspor aims to play a reactive, defensively solid game by using a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting the opposition on the transition. The primary goal is to deny space in central areas and force the opponent to play wide.

Onuachu stays between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit operates as a back five, featuring a central trio of Muci, Bouchouari, and Folcarelli. Muci acts as the leader in the middle, while Bouchouari and Folcarelli cover the left and right sides of the central block. Saviolo operates as the right wing back, ready to push up the flank, while Transfer plays as the left wing back to provide width. This back line focuses on holding a compact shape to protect the goal.

The midfield consists of a flat four designed to squeeze the space in front of the defence. Nwaiwu and Batagov form a central pairing to protect the back line and win the second ball. Nwaiwu helps shield the centre, while Batagov looks to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Mustafa stays wide on the left and Pina stays wide on the right to track back and support the wing backs. This midfield block works to deny the turn to opposition playmakers and compress the midfield.

Trabzonspor relies on a lone striker, Transfer, to lead the line. The attacking intent relies on Transfer to hold up the ball and wait for support. When the team wins the ball, Mustafa and Pina look to carry the ball forward to support the press. The team aims to use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the defence. Much of the offensive work involves long balls to find the feet of the striker or finding runs in behind during a quick break.

This formation offers several tactical advantages, particularly the ability to stay compact when defending in a mid-block. The presence of three central defenders makes it difficult for opponents to find gaps through the middle. Additionally, the wing backs of Saviolo and Transfer allow the team to create wide overloads when they transition into an attacking phase.

The 5-4-1 setup provides Trabzonspor with a very sturdy defensive base. It is a formation best suited for facing high attacking teams that the club looks to frustrate and counter.
