SC Paderborn Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Seimen (Schubert) · Scheller (Götze[Hoffmeier]) · Obispo* (Hansen) · Sticker (Veselinović*) · Obermair (Wagner*[Emmery*]) · Castañeda (Baack[Klass]) · Král* (Baur[Zaracho*]) · Rosier* (Curda[Michel]) · Bilbija (Müller[Bätzner]) · Bayo* (Marino[Tigges]) · Soumaré* (Okpala[Okou*])SC Paderborn prefers to play with a high press and quick verticality through a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup aims to win the ball high up the pitch and move it forward immediately to stretch the opposition. The goal is to use the width of the pitch to create mismatches in the final third.
Seimen plays behind a back three that acts as a solid block. Obispo sits in the middle as the central defender to cover the space and intercept passes, while Sticker and Scheller act as the wider centre-backs to defend the half-spaces. This defensive unit stays compact to deny the turn to attackers. When the opposition has the ball, the defenders work to squeeze the space and force long balls.
The midfield works as a central pairing with Rosier and Obermair occupying the wide areas. Rosier acts as a right midfielder to provide width, while Obermair occupies the left side to help push the team forward. In the center, Král and Castañeda form the engine room, where Král works to drive forward with the ball and Castañeda helps to shield the defense. They connect the back line to the attack by recycling possession and making sure the team can progress through the thirds.
In the attacking phase, the team uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Bayo acts as the central striker to hold up the ball and win headers, while Soumaré and Bilbija play as wide attackers. Soumaré cuts inside from the right to create central presence, and Bilbija pushes from the left to find space between the lines. The wingers press from the front to force a long ball from the opponent. This movement creates chances for runs in behind and allows the team to attack in combinations.
SC Paderborn gains a massive advantage through wide overloads when Rosier and Obermair push high to support the wingers. The formation also provides the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build out from the back. The presence of Bayo allows the team to use a target man to link play during transitions.
This 3-4-3 formation is built for a high intensity game where winning the second ball is vital. It is best suited for matches against teams that play a high line and can be caught on the transition.
