Besiktas looks to play with a heavy defensive focus using a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure, looking to strike when the opposition leaves gaps behind them. The primary goal for Besiktas is to keep the ball out of the danger zone and remain hard to beat by packing the central areas.

Yabancı acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit operates in a back five, with Agbadou and the other central defenders forming a narrow block to win the second ball. The central defenders must stay compact to deny space between the lines, while the LCB and the other CB work to cover any runs made by the striker. Murillo and the u23 player act as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width and tracking back to form a flat five when the team defends in a low block.

The midfield operates as a flat four, where Orkun and the RCM must manage the engine room. Orkun works to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often moving to win the ball back in a mid-block. The LM and RM are expected to help the wing backs, ensuring the team stays compact and does not get stretched. This midfield unit focuses on cutting off the passing lane to the opposition attackers and forcing a long ball to make defending easier.

In the attacking phase, the team relies on a lone striker to hold up the ball and wait for support. The ST must work hard to press from the front and pin the last defender to create space for others. When the team wins the ball, the wide players like the RM and LM look to spread wide and push the opposition back. The wing backs, specifically Murillo, will overlap the winger to deliver crosses or provide an extra man in the final third.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to maintain compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. Besiktas can also use the speed of transition to hit opponents on the break. By having five defenders and four midfielders, the team creates a wall that is hard to break down in deep game situations.

This formation provides a solid base for teams that want to deny space and play through the transition. It is best suited for matches against high possession teams where Besiktas can sit deep and counter at pace.
