Starting Lineup

Newcastle focus on high pressing and quick transitions with a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and hit teams in behind on the transition. The midfield contains a single pivot with Tonali sitting in front of the defence to shield the back three. Beside him, Hall and Livramento occupy the central spaces to connect the defence and attack. The midfield works to squeeze the space and press aggressively to win the ball back high up the pitch.

Newcastle uses two forwards in a partnership to stretch the defence. Osula and Woltemade work together to lead the press from the front and occupy the opposition centre-backs. Barnes operates on the left to provide width and pull defenders out of position before cutting inside. This attacking unit looks to create runs in behind and use quick combinations to break the line.
