Arsenal Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Raya · Calafiori · Gabriel · Saliba · Timber · Lewis-Skelly · Rice · Eze · Morgan Rogers · Saka · Viktor GyökeresArsenal play a brand of football built on high pressing and quick transitions using a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup seeks to control the pitch by winning the ball high up the pitch and immediately looking to exploit gaps in the opposition back line. The team aims to maintain high intensity to keep the opponent pinned in their own half.
Raya operates between the posts to act as a sweep, helping the team play out from the back. The back four consists of Timber at right back and Calafiori at left back, who both provide balance to the defensive line. Saliba and Gabriel form a central pair, with Saliba acting as a ball playing defender and Gabriel providing aerial strength and physical presence. This unit can step up to squeeze the space or drop into a mid-block if the team needs to defend deep.
The midfield functions through a three-man midfield with a carrier and a creative presence. Rice sits in the center to shield the defense, using his tackling and interception skills to break up play. To his side, Lewis-Skelly works to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Eze operates in the advanced role, playing as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space and drive forward with the ball into the final third.
In the attacking phase, Arsenal use three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. Viktor Gyökeres acts as a powerful striker to hold up the ball and win the header in the box. Saka plays as an inverted winger on the right, looking to cut inside and create chances, while Morgan Rogers operates on the left to provide width and run at defenders. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball and win it back quickly.
One major advantage for Arsenal is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, which disrupts the opponent's build up. The formation also allows for wide overloads when Timber or Calafiori overlap the winger to create a two on two situation. This setup creates significant pressure in the half spaces through the movement of Eze and the wingers.
This 4-3-3 formation relies on high energy and rapid vertical movement. It is best suited for games against teams that try to play out from the back and struggle under pressure.
