Newell's aims for a vertical and aggressive style of play through a 4-2-4 formation. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and transition into attack with maximum speed. This lineup is built to overwhelm opponents in the final third by keeping many players close to the opposition goal.

CORREA stands between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The defense operates in a high line with a flat back four. DURANTE and PORTA act as full backs to support the wide areas. In the center, NARVAEZ and SABRANSKY must defend zonally and be ready to cover the space behind the players when the team pushes up. NARVAEZ and SABRANSKY need to be strong in the air and quick to intercept passes. The unit works to squeeze the space and force the opposition to play long balls.

A double pivot provides the core of the midfield. CEPEDA and RAFFAELI sit in front of the defense to shield the back four. CEPEDA works to protect the central zone and win the second ball. RAFFAELI has the license to carry the ball forward and link the defense to the attack. These two players are responsible for recycling possession and finding the wide players. They must also be ready to track back and cover the spaces left by the advancing full backs.

The attacking unit utilizes four players to pin the defense. HERNANDEZ and ROMERO play as wide wingers who hug the touchline to stretch the opposition. In the middle, AGUILAR and DE ANGELIS form a strike partnership. AGUILAR and DE ANGELIS work to press the opposition back line and make runs in behind. The wingers look to get to the byline and whip it in for the strikers. This formation creates many opportunities for cutbacks and combinations in tight spaces.

There are clear tactical advantages to this system. The team can create wide overloads when DURANTE and PORTA overlap the wingers to create a numbers advantage. Having AGUILAR and DE ANGELIS together allows the team to pin the last defender and win the second ball in the box. The ability to press in high waves allows Newell's to win it back high up the pitch and strike before the opponent can settle.

The 4-2-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system designed for constant pressure. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a deep block through sheer numbers and intensity.
